Children’s Integrated Medicine Services
This programme was launched in 2000 and offers care to children living with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. Services are presently offered from our Selly Oak Centre but we hope to establish new outreach activities at external sites such as Child Development Centres, Paediatric Centres and Special Needs Schools in the near future. Many children and their families require immense physical and emotional support to maintain or enhance their physical and psychological well-being, and to enjoy their childhood within the constraints of their condition.
Following an assessment by the medical officer, a package of care is delivered including complementary therapies (e.g. aromatherapy, reflexology, osteopathy), advocacy, advice and information. Access to the programme can be by parents directly or through referrals by health professionals.
The Parent Support Group is key to our support for the family. Freshwinds works with the entire family so that the many demands upon them do not pose detrimental risks to the child and supports them in maintaining a happy family life. Throughout the year group outings and other recreational activities are organised. Activities have included a visit to the Botanical Gardens, Sea-Life Centre, Cinema, Bowling, Pantomine and others. See our Events Page for more information and pictures.
Feedback from Parents of our Child Clients
“A is without exception, less congested after treatment. She is able to hear better and has less reflux at night”.
“After treatment C is much calmer and sleeps better. If C gets a good nights sleep she benefits all round. I use oils for massage”.
