Freshwinds Charity in collaboration with the University of Birmingham have been awarded a grant from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery to under take a study on the benefits of Healing Therapy in patients diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) within a hospital setting. This study was built on results gathered from an audit of a volunteer healing clinic offered by members of The Healing Trust/NFSH (www.thehealingtrust.org.uk/), at a local hospital. Worldwide the use of complementary therapies has been increasing. In the UK it is used by around 28% of the population. In particular the study will evaluate its effectiveness in symptom control and improvements in quality of life of patients. Results from this study will help to inform physicians, health managers and commissioners on the efficacy of healing therapy and its role within a conventional medical care setting.
