Integrated Medicine

‘Integrated Medicine is a synergistic
and harmonious blend of conventional and complementary medicine within a safe environment’.

Freshwinds offers a wide range of complementary therapies to adults and children, all provided by qualified, professional therapists. Majority of who give their expertise on a voluntary basis.  Depending upon project funding services are offered on an in-house and outreach basis.

At Freshwinds this service is available via a team of about 50 volunteer complementary therapists, 2 resident doctors, 3 volunteer doctors, 1 therapist coordinator and 10 contract therapists. This project is linked to the major Birmingham hospitals, hospices and GPs in a number of specialist and generic health activities. Referrals come directly from consultants and general practitioners as well as social services departments.

The aim of the service is to enable clients to continue with vital conventional treatments, minimising signs and symptoms, relief from discomfort and pain, emotional support and overall positively facilitating an improved quality of life.

We offer this service through the following:

  1. In-House Integrated Complementary Therapies
  2. ‘Living Choices’ Outreach Complementary therapy Project
  3. Children’s Project

Freshwinds is the founding and lead organization of the Children’s Complementary Therapy Network (CCTN). The CCTN allows therapists working with children to share experiences and access knowledge from individuals working in similar areas on an International level. The network continues to grow rapidly to encompass a vast variety of experiences and skills.

Since April 2005 we have been working in partnership with Primrose Hospice (Bromsgrove) provided expertise and coordination of the hospice Complementary Therapy service. This is part of our aim to share with other organizations our integrated model of care.
