Children's Project
Many children and their families require immense physical and emotional support to maintain or enhance their physical and psychological well-being, and to enjoy their childhood within the constraints of their condition. Freshwinds works with the entire family so that the many demands upon them do not pose detrimental risks to the child and maintain a happy family life. Children's parents, siblings and carers are offered many different types of support, as well as being given access to workshops and information about grants and state benefits that may be available to them. Freshwinds is a centre of tranquility and resolution where the emotions, uncertainties and fears of all members of the family can be safely expressed, shared and addressed.
This project was re-launched in 2000 with the addition of the Children’s Medical Officer and start up funding from BBC Children in Need. The project has greatly expanded over the years to include outreach activities at external sites and links with the local Child Development Centres, Paediatric Centres and Special Needs Schools. Support for the parents and sibling of the children still continues throughout the year in the form of group outings and other recreational activities.

A key activity of the Children’s Project is the Children’s Complementary Therapy Network (CCTN). The CCTN has been set up to enable therapists to come together via the network to facilitate shared experiences
